- Sincere regret was expressed on all sides on Thursday when word of the death of Mr. Edward G Morris was received. The deceased was a prominent public figure and one of the district's best known and most respected residents. He was a man of very deep understanding, a kindly sympathetic man who was called upon all too frequently, unfortunately, to exercise these qualities. There was no more sincere or genuine man than the late "Ted" Morris, no man who would be more willing put himself out to do a good turn or lend a helping hand. Unfortunately his health during the last couple of years had not been too good, hampering his activities considerably. For the past 14 weeks or so he had been very ill and was unable to get about. During the whole of this time he was devotedly nursed by his wife and members of his family. Born at Jembaicumbene 72 years ago in a little home which stood at the back of where Mr. T. Ahearn now lives, he had resided in the Braidwood district all his life. His father it will be remembered by the older generation, was employed as engine-driver at the flour mills where the freezing works now is. He passed away about 43 years ago. Mr. E. Morris, on coming to Braidwood when about 15 years of age, was first apprenticed to the late Mr. Roderick McDonald, an undertaker and builder, who had his shop where the Masonic Hall now stands. After learning his trade, he went into the same line of business with his late brother, Harry, under the name of Morris Bros., eventually taking over control on his own account some 30 years ago, in premises now owned by Mr. A. G. Wehby it is about six or seven years since he removed to his late premises in Elrington Street, where his business was carried on. The deceased leaves a widow, one daughter (Nellie) and two sons (Henry Edward and William Dudley), all of Braidwood, to mourn their loss. There is one brother, Walter (Hurstville) and one sister, Mary (Mrs. Paxton of Mosman) living. To the members of his family we extend our sincere sympathy. Two sisters (Mrs. Martin Malone and Mrs. Cunningham) and two brothers (Patrick and Harry) are dead. The Rev. Dr. H.D. Morris of Sacred Heart Monastery, Kensington, is a nephew. The funeral which took place on Saturday morning was largely attended, residents from all parts of the district paying their last respects to a good citizen. The large number of floral tributes testified to the esteem in which he was held. Rev. Fathers Devine and Moore conducted the service at the graveside after a brief service had been held at St. Bede's Church. Funeral arrangements were capably carried out by Mr. E. Hill.
