    My Dear Old Friend Jack how the divel(sic) are you getting on it is a long time since I wrote to you but the fact is I have very little news to send.
    I am working for the government the(y) are building 9 small weatherboard cottages for the engine drivers and guards and we have to make 3 one thousand gallon tanks for each house of coarse(sic) there is no water hear (sic) but what comes from the hivens(sic) and when there is no rain it cums in tank on railway truck white cloy water like dirty milk the say it is all right but i dont like it we are sleeping in government tents and getting our food at a boarding house 21/ per week if we had to pay for our bed it would be 8/ more and it is far wors some places there is another man and me hear and I am after up the time doing repairs so can never tell where we might be tomorrow I like shifting about very well but there is nothing to be seen but bush bush from hear to Kalgoorlie and very cold at night and very hot in the day. How are you getting on at the markets. I suppose you are near finished. How is trade in Sydney. I was sorrow to hear about poor Bill Clark, I hope he is keeping all right when you write you must send a long letter and tell me how all the push is getting on. Tell them I was asking for them and P. Smyth I have sent you one of my photos I dont think Mary will like it they are not good. I am going to send one to ?

    I think I see him laugh now I think I have given you all my news. I hope mary and family enjoyed there trip to her mothers. I hope chi were all well. Elen told me there was great times at Jennies marriage. I should liked to be there. I got there likenes it is very good now Jack I must close with kind love to Mary the young ones and yourself from your old uncle.
